How four in a row works

Seven columns, six rows. You drop a disc into a column and it falls to the lowest free slot. Get four of yours in a line — across, down, or diagonally — before your opponent does. A full board with no line of four is a draw.

The trap most people fall into: chasing their own row and never looking at the other side’s. A single unblocked three is usually the whole game.

Why a capacity sheet is the perfect cover

This is the disguise that needed the least invention. A capacity plan is a grid of columns you fill from the bottom up, and Excel’s built-in “Good” and “Bad” cell styles are green and red — the two colours the game already needed. Your allocations carry plausible FTE numbers, so from across the room the board reads as conditional formatting on a resource sheet, not a game.

Play the computer, or a colleague

Three difficulty levels, and the opponent searches several moves ahead on Hard — it will punish an unguarded three every time. Easy is genuinely beatable but never misses an obvious block, because an opponent that blunders outright isn’t fun, it’s broken.

There’s also a two-player mode: one screen, pass it back and forth. Signed-in players get a rating that tracks their best run against the computer on the leaderboards.
